If you’re heading to Universal’s newest crown jewel, Epic Universe, you’re about to enter a theme park that’s both futuristic and nostalgic. Here, dragons fly, plumbers race karts, nibblers scurry, monsters escape, and celestial coasters light up the night.
Here are my favorite Epic Universe tips—from sneaky shortcuts to what’s actually worth waiting for. Whether you’re a first-timer or a park pro, this guide is meant to help you experience the magic without melting, stressing, or wasting time.
Epic Universe Tips
Park-Wide Epic Universe Tips
Let’s start with tips that make the entire park experience more enjoyable:
- Bring an umbrella and a sunhat. Some queues and quick-service stalls have zero shade, and Florida’s “light rain” can leave you damp and uncomfortable.
- Book tickets early. Prices shift with demand, and they’ll almost always rise closer to your trip. Lock in your date as soon as you can.

- Hydration hack: Epic Universe got it right with the refill stations. You’ll find them all over the park. Bring a reusable bottle. Security even let us through with sealed Gatorades, which we refilled all day.
- Don’t miss the fountain show. It’s right before park close (usually 9 or 10 p.m.) and features synchronized jets, music, and lights dancing under the stars of Celestial Park.
- Need a breather? Exit through the far end of the park and pop into the Helios Hotel. Take the elevator to the rooftop bar for sweeping views over the park. You don’t need to be a guest—just show your Epic Universe ticket again when you reenter through security.
- Side note, if you stay at a Universal Property, like Helios, you get into the park an hour early!

- Skip the morning mad dash to Donkey Kong or Battle at the Ministry. Lines balloon instantly and stay that way. Let the rope-drop crowd sprint while you enjoy short waits elsewhere, then double back later with a wait-time alert (more on that below). Instead, aim for my favorite coaster, Stardust Racers, which sees wait times of only 25 minutes in the morning.
- Take in the entrance gate. It’s a beautiful collage of icons from all the portals—I loved the portals concept that ties the entire park together.
- Expect some downtime. When we visited, ride breakdowns felt unusually frequent. Universal is still fine-tuning this park, so patience, snacks, and backup plans will help keep morale up!
- Don’t skip the shows! “The Untrainable Dragon” in Isle of Berk had some of the most jaw-dropping effects in the park. “Le Cirque Arcanus” is a cool concept too, but if you’re expecting Cirque du Soleil-level flips—temper expectations.

- Parking and Security run fairly smoothly, but you should still allow yourself 30-45 minutes before park entry. They let people into Celestial Park before official opening, but the portal lands stay roped off. Use that time to grab photos and hit the restrooms before the crowd floods in.
- Must-try eats: Pizza Moon’s Pizzas and the Mac & Cheese Cones from Isle of Berk are both famous for a reason. Grab the Mac & Cheese Cones from Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel or Spit Fyre Grill. And don’t shy away from the PB&J (Pork, Bacon, and Jam) version.

- Download the Universal Orlando App. It’s essential. You can set alerts for wait times (only once inside the park), mobile order food, and even link Power-Up Bands for Nintendo World.
- Park Hopping: At the time of this post, Epic Universe is not included with park hopper tickets. Don’t miss our Harry Potter World tips for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, plus money saving strategies.
- For some reason, the character lines at Epic Universe are the longest I’ve seen! You can expect to wait 60-90 minutes if you want a photo op with a character. We chose to just take photos from afar to save our time for rides.

- Ride lockers are a breeze with facial recognition! It was so handy to be able to take a photo instead of pulling out my ticket for locker validation every time.
- Interactive Wands and Nintendo Power Up bands can be purchased second hand.
- Even the bathrooms are themed. Be sure to step inside at least one in every land. It’s part of the storytelling.

Packing List Epic Universe Tips
Make your visit a breeze by preparing these items in a small backpack:
- Reusable water bottle
- Sunhat + sunscreen
- Poncho or small umbrella (Half of surviving Epic Universe is just outsmarting the Florida weather.)
- Comfortable walking shoes (If you’re doing parks multiple days in a row, we like to change out our shoes.)
- Power Bank for your Phone
- Themed apparel (pick a land!)
- Nintendo Power-Up Band (if you already own one)
- Interactive Wizard Wand (if you already own one)
- Universal Orlando App (set up payment info in advance for mobile orders)
- A souvenir budget! These headbands were so fun and I also liked the new Harry Potter candy I’d never seen before, perfect for a Parisian atmosphere.

Epic Universe Tips by Land
Now for the good stuff—each portal has its own vibe, quirks, and hacks.
Celestial Park
The heart of the park and a stunner at night.
- The carousel only has a 15-minute wait early in the morning, but skyrockets to 45 once the area lights up after dark.
- Stardust Racers is my personal favorite coaster—ride it at night. The glowing trains, the synchronized “races,” and the wind-in-your-face thrills made it so memorable. For the full experience seeing the two trains race, sit toward the back half of the train.
- For a slower pace meal, Blue Dragon is the park’s best sit-down dining option. Make reservations early.
- Photo tip: The central hub’s reflection pools are a perfect backdrop for photos during golden hour.

Super Nintendo World
The moment you “warp” in through the green pipe, you’re hit with sound effects, coin jingles, and colors that make you feel like you stepped inside a Switch screen.
- Expect sensory overload—and crowds. The best time to explore is late afternoon, but it’s still elbow-to-elbow. Come back at night too to see the park transform.
- Mine Kart regularly maintains two-hour waits, and an Express Pass isn’t valid. Bring some activities for kids and snacks. The Heads Up game on your phone is great for passing time and still enjoying each others company.
- Power-Up Bands are $45 each, but if you or your kids love gaming, it’s worth it. They can track scores, unlock challenges, and even sync to their Nintendo Switch later as an amiibo.

- You don’t NEED a Power-Up Band to punch blocks or play the Key Challenges. The brings and challenges are still interactive without them.
The challenges are: Goomba Crazy Crank, Koopa Troopa POWer Punch, Piranha Plant Nap Mishap, and Thwomp Panel Panic. Collect three of four keys to face Bowser Jr. in “Shadow Showdown.” - If you see a shorter line at Yoshi’s Adventure, jump on it. It’s a slow, but scenic ride through the Mushroom Kingdom with lots of photo ops.
- Don’t forget to peek around corners to find hidden “Easter eggs”.

Ministry of Magic
If you love “Fantastic Beasts,” you’ll feel right at home. If you’re not familiar, consider a quick movie refresher before visiting—some storylines assume you remember details.
- Free souvenir: Ask for the wand map at any wand shop—no purchase required.

- For the show, arrive 20–30 minutes early and when you load into the first room, get a spot near the “stage” on the right hand side.
- Even if you skip the Battle of the Ministry ride, use the single-rider line to catch a glimpse of the Floo Network effects.
(The Single Rider Line doubles as a “observation floor” entrance.) Honestly the queue was as enjoyable as the ride, but then again we were lucky to only have a 60 minute wait after 8:30pm.

- Stand in front of the old apothecary window and listen—you might hear a Niffler scurrying behind the wall.
- Café L’air De La Sirène sells a delicious but pricey $20 butterbeer crepe (“Bièraubeurre Crêpe”). Even if you don’t dine in, walk in to check out the vibes.

Isle of Berk
The most wholesome land in the park—giant dragons, Viking villages, and plenty of space for kids to run.
- Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is one of the smoothest coasters in Epic Universe. Ride it again at night if you can.
- Dragon Racer’s Rally is short but fun. If the line is over 40 minutes, skip it. For the thrill-seekers, lean forward into your dragon during flight—you might be able to manage a full flip.
- The Viking Training Camp play area allows kids to enjoy free play while adults rest their feet. There are benches and shade inside.
- Grab lunch and enjoy that weirdly perfect PB&J (pork, bacon, jam) mac & cheese cone.

Dark Universe
Eerie, atmospheric, and home to two of the park’s top rides.
- Keep an eye out for Igor wandering the crowd. He’s sarcastic and engaging.
- Monsters Unleashed has manageable wait times all day—save it for when other rides are backed up.
- Curse of the Werewolf is short but fun; a wait time under 45 minutes is a sweet spot.
- The land’s lighting and fog effects make for great night photos—be sure to come back after sunset.

Final Thoughts
Universal’s Epic Universe is exactly what its name promises: epic. But like any massive new park, it rewards those who show up with a plan. With these Epic Universe tips, you can skip the rookie mistakes and enjoy the park the way it’s meant to be experienced.

Loved the information. I have been thinking about taking a trip. Ive never done Universal, only Disney when visiting Orlando so it is time to change it up. Thanks
