There are many ways to tackle a Chicago to Niagara Falls road trip, and we highly recommend taking one segment of your journey through Canada.
The Canadian side of Niagara Falls is home to the massive Horseshoe Falls (sometimes referred to as Victoria Falls), and standing there, you feel the scale in a way that’s hard to match from the U.S. side. You can actually feel the thundering vibrations of the waterfall from the viewing deck.
If you’d rather skip the border crossing, you can absolutely do this trip entirely within the U.S. In that case, the return route in this guide doubles as a full round-trip itinerary.
We’ve done versions of this drive with kids, and the key to making it enjoyable is breaking it up with places to run, explore, or just reset before the next stretch of highway so I’ve included family favorites as well.
